Weekend fun: Kansas City to enjoy 10th annual Arts in the Park

The Kansas City area will celebrate its 10th annual Arts in the Park event this weekend, along with family-friendly soccer fun at Crown Center and a Sand Cinema outdoor movie.

Arts in the Park

Residents are invited to celebrate Arts in the Park on Friday from 5 to 10 p.m. and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. The event offers free admission and will take place at Macken Park in North Kansas City.

The festival showcases 60 artists from Missouri and Kansas, featuring live music and roaming performances throughout the celebration. Handmade goods from these artists, such as jewelry, candles, mugs and clothing, will be on display and available for purchase.

A dedicated children’s zone will feature a petting zoo, bounce houses and more. The Youth Art and Entrepreneurship Program gives young artists the opportunity to present their artwork and handmade goods, with the option to sell them.

Food vendors will offer refreshments and the Kansas City Ethnic Enrichment Commission is sponsoring food from Ecuador, Indonesia, Laos, Jamaica, Kenya and Germany to be served throughout the festival.

Soccer fun at Crown Center

Kansas City’s Crown Center, also known as the Center of Summer Soccer, is decorated for the 2026 FIFA World Cup. The Kansas City FIFA Fan Festival kicks off this week, including celebrations this weekend. The event is free but requires tickets.

Families looking to experience more soccer fun can find it at Crown Center.

Families hoping to get in the summer soccer spirit this weekend can catch a glimpse of a 90-foot soccer mural, a 15-foot giant soccer ball and flags of the competing countries at the center. Visitors can also participate in a soccer darts challenge.

Crown Center is home to several restaurants and shops, along with attractions such as SEA LIFE Aquarium and LEGOLAND Discovery Center.

The soccer festivities and decorations will be available until July 26.

Sand Cinema

Jackson County Parks and Recreation’s Sand Cinema will bring Zootopia 2 to the big blow-up screen at Longview Lake Beach Friday.

The event costs $10 per car and gates open at 7:30 p.m. The movie will start at dark, or approximately 9 p.m.

The beach will have games available and children can get photos with Zootopia’s celebrity pop artist, Gazelle.

Concessions will be available and visitors should bring blankets or lawn chairs. Swimming at the beach will not be allowed during the event.
