(The Lion) — A plane carrying Secretary of War Pete Hegseth reportedly declared an emergency after departing Belgium on Wednesday.
Flight information shared online indicates a rapid descent to under 10,000 feet and a turn toward’s the UK, with early speculation identifying cabin depressurization as the cause.
A short time later, Chief Pentagon Spokesman Sean Parnell said a crack in the windshield was the cause.
“On the way back to the United States from NATO’s Defense Ministers meeting, Secretary of War Hegseth’s plane made an unscheduled landing in the United Kingdom due to a crack in the aircraft windshield,” he posted to X. “The plane landed based on standard procedures and everyone onboard, including Secretary Hegseth, is safe.”
Hegseth reposted to confirm his safety.
“All good. Thank God. Continue mission!”
