Olathe school prohibits staff from wearing Charlie Kirk-style ‘FREEDOM’ shirts

A Kansas City-area elementary school has forbidden staff from wearing Charlie Kirk-style “FREEDOM” shirts.

In an email exchange with a concerned citizen that has since been posted on the wildly popular Libs of TikTok X account, the principal for Olathe Unified School District 233 ‘s Arbor Creek Elementary School confirms the ban.

“I just want to make sure that you have told your staff to not wear those ‘Freedom’ shirts to school anymore,” the citizen writes to Principal Melissa Snell. “Please confirm. Thank you.”

Dr. Melissa Snell

“Yes, I have,” the principal replies. “Was there someone in particular that you are referring to? If you don’t mind me asking.”

That last part of the principal’s response was fishy to the concerned parent.

“I think she was ready to reprimand any staff member I saw wearing it,” the citizen told The Heartlander.

The Heartlander has reached out to a spokesperson for the district, asking to confirm the prohibition; why it was instituted; if the district agrees with the decision; and if there is a particular district or school policy that covers the situation.

Meanwhile, as Libs of TikTok notes, the Olathe district has a Department of Culture and Belonging that offers “We All Belong Together” T-shirts and sweatshirts – though the Arbor Creek decision appears to not include Charlie Kirk fans in that belonging.

The department boasts that it is “providing equitable opportunities in order to develop their understanding and respect of differences, thus preparing them to live in an inclusive, global community and world.”

“Why is freedom not allowed @olatheschools??” writes Libs of TikTok – whose Monday post had earned over half a million views as of midday Tuesday.
