Local parent and U.S. Army veteran Dusty Blue has filed to run for the Mexico #59 School Board in Audrain County, Missouri. The election will be on April 4, 2023, where three school board seats will be on the ballot. The seats will be filled by the top three candidates that voters select.
“I’ve never run for public office before,” stated Blue, “but I’ve come to realize how important it is for parents to be involved in their children’s education—not only at the kitchen table, but at the decision-making table. That includes having parents on the school board to ensure our schools are providing the best possible education for all our kids.”
Blue has outlined his priorities for elected office: increasing parental voices in meetings, keeping political ideology out of curriculums, and ensuring accountability. He has reiterated the importance of having open dialogue between the board and the community. Likewise, his passion for investing in the next generation is a cornerstone of his campaign.
“Our students and teachers deserve a board that listens to their needs and also listens to the concerns of the community. I’m running to ensure our schools are maintaining their focus of equipping the workforce of tomorrow to live successful lives—whether that means preparing them for college or empowering them to be skilled in a trade after high school.”
Blue previously served in the U.S. Army 101st Airborne Division and is a certified flight instructor for helicopters. Today, he is the owner of Export Roofing and Exteriors, LLC. He and his wife, Jennah, have two children and have made an intentional effort to show their children the importance of being active in one’s community and appreciating the area’s beautiful natural landscape through hiking, camping, and other outdoor activities.
