Sen. Elizabeth Warren attacked the nation’s 3,000 crisis pregnancy centers Tuesday, demanding the government shut them down.
Reporters interviewed the Massachusetts Democrat about abortion and the Supreme Court decision to overturn Roe v. Wade. But the interview quickly shifted to abortion-alternative crisis pregnancy centers, which Warren suggested Congress should abort.
“In Massachusetts right now, those crisis pregnancy centers that are there to fool people who are looking for pregnancy termination help outnumber true abortion clinics by 3 to 1. We need to shut them down here in Massachusetts, and we need to shut them down all around the country. You should not be able to torture a pregnant person like that,” Warren said.
Critics blasted Sen. Warren for her comments on Twitter.
“Now THIS is harmful disinformation,” Babylon Bee CEO Seth Dillon tweeted.
Koch Institute senior fellow Casey Mattox tweeted, “Not gonna sugar coat this. It’s evil. If I knew nothing about Elizabeth Warren but the lies she tells about pregnancy centers I’d know enough.”
Washington Post columnist Megan McArdle told Fox News, “Elizabeth Warren has a lot of unconstitutional ideas.”
In a Senate Judiciary Committee hearing, a Berkeley law professor accused Missouri Sen. Josh Hawley of being transphobic and stoking violence by maintaining that only biological women get pregnant.
Hawley Thursday filed the Pregnancy Resource Center Defense Act to protect pro-life crisis pregnancy centers from pro-abortion activists, which he said includes his Senate Democratic colleagues such as Warren. The bill comes in light of widespread vandalizations across the nation.
On the topic of crisis pregnancy centers, Hawley interviewed Heidi Matzke, executive director for the Alternatives Pregnancy Center, citing Warren’s comments alongside a recent Harvard poll showing 90% of voters disapproved of abortion in the final month.
Yet, Warren and her colleagues are advocating for a federal law that protects abortion rights until birth.
“That’s anti-democratic,” Hawley said. “At the same time, they want to shut down 3,000 pregnancy care centers all around this country. That’s radical.”
