Biden administration, media, ignoring or downplaying rising violence against pro-life community

An assassination attempt on a conservative U.S. Supreme Court Justice. Continued illegal protests outside conservative justices’ homes. And a wave of dozens of attacks and dire threats against pro-life organizations.

Where is the U.S. Department of Justice, asks Missouri Sen. Josh Hawley in a pointed letter to Attorney General Merrick Garland.

“Oh, it’s a total double standard,” Hawley said in an interview with The Heartlander on Thursday. “It’s because, actually this is a pro-crime administration. This administration is fine with crime, so long as it’s committed by people on the left. They’re for it.”

Noting the over 40 attacks on pro-life facilities in recent weeks, and the 13 pro-life care pregnancy centers that have been firebombed or burned, Hawley says “this administration can barely bother to notice.

“We had a full-on assassination attempt of a sitting United States Supreme Court justice [Brett Kavanaugh]. And yet, DOJ will not enforce the laws that are on the books that say you can’t go to justices’ homes and parade and picket in front of them. And this guy shows up with a gun and knives and tactical gear in the dead of night to his house. He made it right to his house. It is just unbelievable.

“They just don’t seem to care about this crime that is engulfing the entire country, and they don’t seem to care about the crime directed at pro-life citizens.”

In his letter to Garland, Hawley recalls the incendiary words of Democratic Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer at a pro-choice rally in March 2020: “I want to tell you, Kavanaugh, you have released the whirlwind and you will pay the price. You won’t know what hit you if you go forward with these awful decisions.”

“All of this rhetoric,” Hawley told The Heartlander. “And now we’ve got people showing up trying to kill [justices] at their homes. Schumer’s words have consequences. The words of these other radical leftists have consequences. And for Democrat elected officials to just look the other way and excuse it is dead wrong.”

With all the violence – and with fresh, chilling threats of escalating attacks from a radical pro-abortion group calling iself Jane’s Revenge – writer Wesley J. Smith worries that “the country is entering a violent time akin to “Bleeding Kansas.”

Smith cites a communiqué from Jane’s Revenge that reads in part, “Now the leash is off. … We have demonstrated in the past month how easy and fun it is to attack. … We promised to take increasingly drastic measures against oppressive infrastructures. Rest assured that we will, and those measures may not come in the form of something so easily cleaned up as fire and graffiti. …

“From here forward, any anti-choice group who closes their doors, and stops operating will no longer be a target. But until you do, it’s open season, and we know where your operations are. … Through attacking, we find joy, courage, and strip the veneer of impenetrability held by these violent institutions.”

Meanwhile, the major media are “aiding and abetting the left wing” by largely ignoring or downplaying such threats, as well as the attempt on Kavanaugh’s life and actual attacks on pro-life communities, Hawley says. Indeed, The New York Times’ story about the very real threat to Kavanaugh was on Page 20, while media coverage of the over 40 attacks on pro-life facilities has been sparse and tepid.

“These are the same [news media] who said that the violent protests in 2020-2021 were mostly peaceful,” Hawley says. “You know, when there are literally cars exploding and buildings being burned down and cops being assaulted all around them. So we know that they’re dishonest and they won’t report the facts.”

The thing is, the senator argues, “people are living the facts.”

“People know they’re not safe,” he says. “They know their kids aren’t safe. They know that they’re paying $5 a gallon for gasoline. So, whatever the media does, and however much they try to gaslight them, people are living in this reality and they don’t like it. And that’s why I think we’re going to see some changes come November.”
