FBI, cops offer $47,000 reward 1 year after arsonist targeted Jewish family near St. Louis

Federal and local authorities are renewing their call for the public’s help one year after an arsonist targeted a Jewish family near St. Louis.

The Clayton Police Department and the FBI are still searching for the person who intentionally set three cars on fire outside a Westmoreland Avenue home on Aug. 5, 2025. During the early morning attack, the suspect also spray-painted “Death to the IDF” on the street, specifically targeting a resident who is a military veteran of the Israel Defense Forces.

Investigators are asking anyone who might recognize the suspect from surveillance footage to come forward. Police say seemingly insignificant details or noticing changes in an acquaintance’s behavior around the time of the crime could break the case wide open.

Anyone who might hesitate to share information due to personal relationships or safety concerns can submit tips anonymously.

Rewards totaling up to $47,000 are available for information leading to an arrest or conviction.

Local Jewish leaders are also reiterating their support for the family and the ongoing investigation.

Jewish Federation of St. Louis President and CEO Danny Cohn said the violence was meant to terrorize the Jewish community.

“Our community has proven to be resilient in the face of this threat, but we also remain committed to bringing justice for the family that was targeted, for the safety of our entire community, and to send a message to perpetrators of hate that they will be held accountable,” Cohn said.

ADL Heartland Regional Director Jordan Kadosh expressed confidence in the police department.

“We’re grateful for their unwavering diligence in continuing this investigation a year on and remain committed to assisting in whatever way we’re called upon,” Kadosh stated.

Clayton Police tell Heartlander News they’ve received calls from the public since last week’s announcement, but they don’t have any new information to share about the investigation just yet.
