Pro-gay Republican group drops the ‘T’ in LGBT

Transgender advocacy is no longer part of the Log Cabin Republicans’ political agenda.

The group will only focus on gay, lesbian and bisexual issues. Its national board made the change after talking with members.

“We are an LGB advocacy organization,” Log Cabin Republicans president Ross Hemminger wrote last week.

The group added originally transgender issues to its work in 2015. 

Its board said adults should be free to live as they wanted as long as they don’t take rights away from other people. 

However, Hemminger said the transgender movement doesn’t just focus on adults, nor does it leave others alone.

Many of its biggest fights now involve children. Hemminger called it a “focus on minors.” 

He pointed to schools teaching gender ideology and males playing on girls’ and women’s sports teams. 

Additionally, transgender advocates support using puberty blockers, cross-sex hormones and sex-change surgeries on children, and often times hiding a child’s struggles from parents.

Those fights are much different from the gay issues Log Cabin Republicans started out working on when founded in 1977, the org said.

Log Cabin Republicans endorsed President Donald Trump in the 2020 and 2024 presidential elections. In his second term, Trump has cracked down on pro-transgender policies, especially those that impact children.
