Heart to Heart International volunteer event

Kansas City, Kansas-based nonprofit Heart to Heart International is hosting a World Cup-themed volunteer event to benefit earthquake survivors in Venezuela. The country suffered back-to-back earthquakes last month, both with magnitudes greater than 7.

Nearly 4,000 people have died in the disaster, and nearly 17,000 more have been injured, according to Reuters.

Heart to Heart International will hold “KC Kicks for Kits,” from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday at the organization’s headquarters in Lenexa, Kansas.

“We’re calling on soccer fans to step up, jump into the action and help us assemble essential hygiene kits for families in need,” the event website says.

The kits will be sent to families in need around the world, including in Venezuela, where about 17,000 people are displaced from their homes. Their aim is to help people affected by natural disasters regain a sense of normalcy and help prevent disease.
