Five Wisconsin teens are being credited with saving an elderly couple and their family after springing into action when a fire broke out on July 4.
The teens, ages 19 and 20, were hanging out in one of their garages after spending the day on the water and watching fireworks in Lodi, about 25 miles north of Madison, when they noticed the back of a neighboring house was “all red and smoky,” WMTV reported.
“We’re like, ‘that’s not a bonfire,’” one of the teens said.
The men split up, pounding on windows at the front and back of the home before forcing their way inside to help the occupants escape.
“We started calling out for people and asking if anybody was in there, and then we ended up getting quite a bit of responses,” one teen said. “There ended up being five or six people in the house.”
Officials said the teens acted just in the nick of time.
“Five minutes later, and (the house) would have been all smoked out,” a teen said.
