BARRY COUNTY, Mo. – As treehouse homes become more popular and readily available across the country, the Ozarks has seen a recent uptick in treehouse vacation rentals.
Just outside of Cassville and two minutes from Roaring River State Park, The Getaway Treehouse Suite sits in the heart of the Ozark Mountains in rural Southwest Missouri off Highway 112.
Half-owner Michael DeShon told The Heartlander the treehouse was strictly a business venture for him and his wife Brandy.
The Getaway Treehouse Suite is nestled within seven trees and includes a bath house adjoined by a walkway bridge. The loft features two single beds and a queen size sofa bed. The bathhouse is heated and includes a Jacuzzi bathtub with a picture window overlooking the mountainous region.
Guests can enjoy free WiFi, a WiFi-and-bluetooth-capable television for streaming services and DirecTV satellite channels. Complimentary tea, coffee, spices, oil, utensils, a toaster oven, microwave, coffee maker, mini fridge, coffee grinder and single burner are available inside the kitchenette.
To enjoy the outdoors, a charcoal grill, picnic tables and campfire pit are readily available on the property.
This particular treehouse sits 12 feet off the forest floor. DeShon says treehouse homes are built to move with the trees, and guests may notice a windy day.
“If there is a large wind you can feel it sway. Not much, but it definitely sways in the breeze,” DeShon said.
DeShon says since their purchase of The Getaway Treehouse Suite two years ago, business has been so good that he and his wife built a second Airbnb treehouse on the same 10-acre property. The new venture was completed several weeks ago and is being called The Hideaway Treehouse.
The 600-square-foot Getaway Treehouse is anchored into the trees, while The Hideaway Treehouse is a bit different and stands on stilts with three trees incorporated inside the deck. The new Hideaway Treehouse is 1,100-square-feet with extra space and amenities for more guests.
DeShon says the plumbing for each location is cleverly concealed, and most guests will never notice it.
“You won’t see any of it from the outside. Everything is kind of hidden. It does go down the tree, but it’s all covered up. The Getaway (plumbing) actually follows underneath the walkway, so you don’t see it. The other one just has a wooden structure that goes down and everything is hidden. That way, it is weather tight and everything.”
The Getaway Treehouse has 229 reviews and a 4.95 rating out of five stars.
“We came here for a short anniversary trip and it was such a romantic and cozy setting!” one reviewer known as Holly wrote last November. “Michael and Brandy were amazing hosts and provided everything we could need. This place is a true gem and we will be recommending it to all of our friends and family.”
