Kansas City area teacher, LGBTQ advocate pleads guilty to child porn

A Kansas City-area high school teacher was sentenced May 6 to 12 years in federal prison for distributing child pornography.

Seth Brummond, a math teacher at Lee’s Summit West High School and an LGBTQ activist, according to an X post by Libs of TikTok, was arrested and charged with child pornography charges in 2024.

A cyber tip warned Lee Summit police officers of a user who uploaded 12 videos of child pornography in the Kik Messaging app in September 2024, a press release from the Western District of Missouri U.S. Attorney’s Office reads.

Officers later identified the suspect to be Brummond and placed his home under surveillance to serve federal search warrants. He was arrested on his way to work at the school in December 2024.

Officers seized Brummond’s phone when he was arrested and discovered hundreds of images and videos containing child pornography. He later admitted in an interview to sharing child pornography on Kik, according to another press release by the U.S. Attorney’s Office.

Brummond pleaded guilty to sharing over 60 child pornography videos between September 2024 and December 2024. He received a sentence of 12 years in federal prison without parole, which will be followed by 10 years of supervised release.

This case was part of the U.S. Department of Justice’s Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide effort fighting the child sexual exploitation epidemic.
