Obama’s Obsession: To understand the Biden spying-on-Congress scandal, look no further than busybody Barack

Many believe the Biden administration essentially functioned as a third term for Barack Obama. Certainly the latest spying on Congress scandal has Obama’s singular imprint on it.

Fact is, Obama singlehandedly reinvented domestic spying in America.

Perhaps the ghastly revelation that Biden’s special counsel, aka Trump hitman Jack Smith, spied on the personal cell phones of eight Republican senators and one congressman can best be understood as a natural outgrowth of Obama’s inexorable infatuation with spying.

When asked, even Google AI, which mysteriously tends to de-emphasize facts embarrassing to Democrats and liberals, can’t help but spew forth Obama’s mind-boggling record of foreign and domestic espionage – on political rivals and institutions, journalists and even average citizens.

To wit:

Foreign leaders and allies

  • German Chancellor Angela Merkel: The National Security Agency (NSA) reportedly tapped Merkel’s mobile phone and monitored her calls starting in 2002, a practice that continued into the Obama administration. After the 2013 revelation, President Obama ended the program.
  • French presidents: The NSA spied on French Presidents François Hollande, Nicolas Sarkozy, and Jacques Chirac, according to WikiLeaks documents.
  • Other foreign leaders: The NSA collected communications from dozens of other foreign leaders, many of whom were allies. An internal review led to President Obama ordering curbs on spying on the leaders of “friends and allies”.

International organizations

  • United Nations: The NSA successfully cracked the encryption used for the UN’s internal video conferencing system in 2012, allowing it to spy on the organization.
  • International Monetary Fund and World Bank: In response to the Snowden leaks, the Obama administration ordered an end to eavesdropping on the headquarters of these two international financial institutions.

American citizens

  • Bulk collection of phone records: Documents leaked by Edward Snowden revealed that the NSA was collecting the phone metadata—information about numbers called, time, and duration—of millions of Americans in bulk. A federal appeals court later ruled this program illegal under the Patriot Act.
  • Internet companies: In 2013, reports emerged that the NSA tapped into the central servers of major U.S. internet companies like Google, Facebook, and Apple to collect user data.
  • Journalists: The Justice Department secretly seized phone records from Associated Press journalists in 2013 and also monitored Fox News reporter James Rosen as part of a leak investigation.
  • Political opponents: Following the 2016 election, the Department of Justice Inspector General and other investigations found that the Obama-era FBI abused the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA) process to target and surveil the Trump campaign.

Media organizations

  • German media: The NSA reportedly spied on the German news magazine Der Spiegel, which had published multiple stories critical of U.S. intelligence activities.

“People forget,” notes Obama expert and Kansas City author Jack Cashill, “that in 2013 the Obama administration obtained the records of 20 Associated Press office phone lines and reporters’ home and cell phones, seizing them without notice. So egregious was the act, even the New York Times complained Obama was ‘threatening fundamental freedoms.’

“Then, of course, in 2016, Obama’s people flat-out lied on a FISA application to get authorization to spy on Trump and his advisors, a campaign of political sabotage that would last at least three more years. As rogue FBI agent Peter Strzok confided to his FBI lover, ‘The White House is running this.’”

To be sure, Obama’s track record on spying, which he appears to have bequeathed to Biden, is an absolutely breathtaking synopsis of the most unAmerican actions in U.S. presidential history. Together with the Russia hoax – which Hillary Clinton started and Obama perpetrated in order to bring down his successor – it all makes Watergate look like the shoplifting of a snack-sized chocolate bar.

Barack Obama is precisely the kind of won’t-go-away agitator/demagogue they invented exile for.

Indeed, there can be little doubt Obama’s substance-abuse addiction to snooping on the lives of others bled profusely into the newly revealed Biden administration’s watershed breach of the public trust and, arguably, the Constitution.

Once injected into the body politic – infecting a willing deep state that was already openly contemptuous of the people’s choice for president – such a toxin as Obama’s obsession with spying is nigh impossible to purge.

Just as we now know that COVID originated in a Chinese lab, we can surely surmise where Biden’s virulent spying was meticulously germinated.
