(The Lion) — The commission in charge of planning celebrations for the 250th anniversary of the United States is preparing to unveil the largest American flag ever created, Fox News reports.
The massive banner is expected to measure 776 feet wide and nearly 1,492 feet long, numbers that highlight the nation’s founding in 1776 and the year Columbus arrived in North America.
When unfurled, the flag will cover an area larger than 20 football fields.
Organizers say the banner will be made entirely in the United States and unfurled by hundreds of citizens in what they describe as an extraordinary moment of national unity.
“Everything President Trump does is historic and larger than life,” America250 Executive Director Ari Abergel told Fox. “America250 will be no different, and we’re kicking things off by breaking a massive world record – creating the world’s largest American flag.”
The flag’s scale will surpass records held by Qatar and Azerbaijan, both of which previously claimed the title of world’s largest flags under Guinness World Records. America250 leaders say this effort will “blow them both away.”
Because the National Mall cannot accommodate a flag of this size, officials are considering venues such as Joint Base Andrews in Maryland, a NASCAR speedway, or even Lebanon, Kansas, which is the geographic center of the United States, reported Fox.
Ambassador Monica Crowley, U.S. Chief of Protocol and America250 media representative, said the unveiling is planned for spring 2026.
“Under President Trump’s leadership, the national mood is bright and optimistic,” she said. “There could be no better time to throw our country a spectacular birthday party, including unfurling the largest American flag in history.”
America250 organizers are also planning additional patriotic events in 2025 leading up to the nation’s semiquincentennial, including celebrations marking the U.S. Navy’s birthday in October and the U.S. Marine Corps’ birthday in November. Leaders say these “unforgettable moments” will inspire pride and rekindle a spirit of patriotism across the country.
While Democrats in Washington have moved to place their allies on the America250 commission, which was established by Congress in 2016, organizers insist this historic celebration will ultimately be remembered as Trump’s achievement.
“At the end of the day, America250 will be remembered as President Trump’s celebration –nobody else’s,” said Abergel, a former deputy communications director for Melania Trump and former Fox News producer. “And the President is the only reason why it will be a success.”
In honor of the country’s birthday, the Herzog Foundation, publisher of The Lion, is sponsoring Faith & Freedom 250 – a yearlong video series on the deep roots of faith and liberty in our nation’s history – as well as the Freedom Tour, which will stop in all 13 original colonies in 2026 to celebrate the rights to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness and revive patriotism in the country.
