With President Biden’s cynical pardon of his criminal son Hunter after repeated, bleated promises he wouldn’t do it, you are seeing, in real time, precisely how absolute power corrupts absolutely.
And how close this country came to succumbing to it.
Legendary abolitionist and former slave Frederick Douglass saw firsthand how caustic slavery was – even to his slaveholder’s wife, who changed from angel to demon overnight through what Douglass called the institution’s “fatal poison of irresponsible power.”
That putrid smell from the rotting corpse of the Biden regime – an abortion of a presidency in both policy and principle – is the scent of corruption’s decay.
Indeed, after shaking down foreign adversaries for cash bribes by selling Joe Biden’s unwarranted station as vice president and then president, the Biden crime family warded off investigators; lied about Biden’s own “big guy” role in the payoffs; jailed or tried to jail his opponents; and now has pardoned his son.
Even as his opponents imprisoned in the Jan. 6 Capitol chaos suffer America’s first actual gulags.
As I posted after the pardon announcement Sunday:
You may be a corrupt public official if:
- You take millions in bribes from foreign adversaries.
- You pardon your bag man son for ANYTHING he did or may have done in furtherance of your family’s crimes.
- At the same time, you’ve imprisoned your political rival’s supporters.
I’ve made something of a study of all this. In four decades of journalism I’ve had a front-row seat to blatant government corruption – from local lords to crooked sheriffs to prosecutors to judges and more. I’ve come to realize how perniciously difficult it is for trusting citizens to recognize corruption when it’s right in front of them.
For most of us, for most of our lives, corruption has always been something we’ve read about or seen reported in other places and other times. Not here. Not now. Surely not under our own noses.
Yes. Surely.
The same holds true for overtly communist tendencies – which we used to think of as foreign-born and far-away. Not so. As we’ve now seen with the Biden regime, the temptation for the powerful to hold oneself harmless for actual crimes while persecuting enemies for even sham allegations is endemic worldwide.
Yes, it can happen here. It has just happened here. American DNA holds no immunity over such fatal poison.
Especially with an unprincipled media, the majority of which has bizarrely been a happy spectator to the unmitigated graft – and therefore part and parcel of it.
Never forget that America’s legacy media have had a front-row seat, as have I, to this particular political deceit – and yet they didn’t rest at simply ignoring it. No, they actively protected and defended it – warding off truth-tellers, denying the president’s criminality and subsequent dementia, burning the few honest observers at the stake for questioning the no-clothes emperor’s naked corruption.
Make no mistake, these boot-licking tyrant sycophants in the media are unindicted co-conspirators – honorary members of the Biden crime family, and thus co-owners of this four-year toxic spill.
Corruption’s putrefying stench so easily engulfs those around it.
