‘Say hello to him’: Trump asks Kansas City BBQ owners if Mahomes is Chiefs’ game 1 starter

President Donald Trump questioned Kansas City, Kansas, restaurant owners on the status of Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes Monday during the Small Business Summit.

The White House invited the owners of Slap’s (Squeal Like a Pig) BBQ to the White House along with roughly 130 other small businesses to celebrate National Small Business Week.

Special Assistant and Communications Advisor to the President Margo Martin posted a video of Trump talking with Slap’s BBQ owner Joe Pearce in front of a spread of the award-winning restaurant’s sauces.

“Most importantly, how’s Mahomes doing?” Trump asked. “Is he okay? You tell the people we love him.”

Mahomes suffered a torn ACL and LCL in December during a game against the Los Angeles Chargers. The Chiefs lost the game and missed the playoffs for the first time in Mahomes’ career. The quarterback had surgery the next day and has spent the off season in rehab.

“So, he will start game one, you think?” Trump asked Pearce.

“We’re hoping so,” Pearce responded.

“He’s fantastic. He’s a fantastic guy. Say hello to him, okay?”
