Three people were injured Friday morning during a Kansas City funeral service for a homicide victim.
Officers responded to shots being fired around 11:15 a.m. Friday at New Beginning Apostolic Church where a funeral service for homicide victim Jerrell Moreland, 29, was taking place, according to KMBC.
On Feb. 11, Moreland and Brittnee McMillon, 26, had been found dead from gunshot wounds in a car behind an apartment complex on East Armour Boulevard.
On Friday, off-duty Kansas City police officers were at the church attending the service when the shooting happened, KCPD told KMBC.
Three people were injured in the shooting along with a police officer who suffered a “graze wound” that could’ve come from shrapnel.
“I find this absolutely unacceptable,” KCPD officer Phil DiMartino told KCTV5.
Police believe shots were fired by the suspect or suspects while they were driving on N. Bales Avenue. The incident is under investigation and no known arrests have been made.
