Voter fury descended this week on the Olathe, Kansas school district during a major school bond election after an anti-ICE social media post allegedly tied to the wife of the superintendent.
A woman said to be the wife of Olathe Unified School District Superintendent Dr. Brent Yeager posted on social media over the weekend to warn others that ICE was in the area. The post sparked heated debate over the school district’s views on ICE and how it affects the students, as well as the parents’ votes on whether to give the district $389 million more in bond money.
Ballots were sent to voters last week and are due March 3, notably in the largest school bond ask in district history.

An account associated with Kristi Peterson Yeager appears no longer to be publicly available.
“@olatheschools Kristi Peterson Yeager is an affront to common sense and her actions are not the way I want my child thinking or learning,” one parent posted. “We will be pulling our 3 out of Olathe schools immediately.”
“Just mailed in my ‘no’ vote for the bond vote,” another user announced. “First time I can remember that I voted against a bond for the school district.”
“Same!” wrote another. “My first ‘No’ for Olathe school district will be dropped off this evening.”
An observer on X also posted a picture of an upside-down American flag hoisted at the district’s Mission Trail Middle School. The upside-down flag originated centuries ago as a ship’s symbol of distress but now serves largely as a political protest, recently gaining attention for anti-ICE sentiment.
The observer noted in the post’s comments that the picture was from Dec.19, but will affect how they vote in the current bond election.
“@olatheschools wants more bond money,” the user wrote. “Yet they display our flag in this manner. NOPE! CARE TO EXPLAIN ?!”
ICE agents were allegedly spotted in Olathe outside of a community center Friday morning and reportedly looked into the windows of the Boys and Girls Club, according to teachers. Olathe schools weren’t in session that day.
Protesters arrived at the Boys and Girls Club Friday afternoon, even though the agents were gone. The group is known as the “signal group” or “emergency community response team,” and mobilizes after someone posts information regarding ICE activity to social media, KMBC 9 reported.
Meanwhile, students in Johnson County walked out of their schools at least twice last week and once the week before, hundreds of students leaving class to stand outside for hours with anti-ICE signs and shouting anti-ICE chants.
“No Trump, no KKK, no fascist USA,” they yelled.
Students held signs reading, “no one is illegal on stolen land,” “if you won’t act like adults we will,” and “ICE is just KKK spelled different.”
This all comes as the school district is already in the process of closing schools due to enrollment declines. The district is losing roughly 300 students per year, and the trend is expected to continue over the next 15 years.
The Heartlander reached out to Olathe School District but didn’t receive a reply as of publication time.
The ICE agents who were in Olathe on Friday and Saturday made at least two arrests, one being an American citizen who was later released.
One commenter on the KMBC story pointed to mass illegal immigration under Joe Biden as the root of it all.
“This is a story about a corrupt former President who just needed votes. And a real President who is doing what Americans voted him to do.”
