If you’re wondering why President Trump felt it necessary to tout his considerable accomplishments in a speech to the nation Wednesday night – perhaps it’s because the legacy media won’t.

And because of the fact that his own government appears to be trying to thwart him.

Besides Democrats causing a record-long government shutdown, bitterly fighting enforcement of immigration law and making videos urging military members to disobey orders, many in the federal government are doing no less than trying to sabotage the Trump presidency, says Missouri Rep. Mark Alford.

“You’ve got, I would say, half the people that are working under you trying to sabotage you,” Alford says of what Trump’s cabinet officials are dealing with. “So, imagine in your work environment having to deal with that and trying to be successful.

“President Trump wants to turn Washington around. He is upsetting the apple cart, and it’s upsetting people and threatening them, their livelihoods, their futures, and what they see should be the future of America.”

“Pres Trump,” posts independent journalist Lara Logan, “after months of waiting, watching, investigating & first-hand reporting, it appears increasingly obvious you are being set-up to fail & there will be no coming back from this if you do not stop it now. The ‘establishment’ seems to have [its] hooks in your Admin & they are sabotaging your efforts, blocking implementation of your orders, sidelining your political appointees, leaving countless critical positions unstaffed & they have allowed your enemies to either stay in place or come back through the door to occupy key terrain.

“Almost a year into your Presidency … you still have career bureaucrats whose loyalties are most definitely not to you or your Admin occupying many deputy positions instead of your appointees.”

Logan notes that Democrats “are not hiding the intention to impeach you after the midterms & they are setting it up so that your own base will be enraged by your failure to act, while they are the ones making sure your efforts are undermined at every turn. 

“They could not stop you from winning office – but they are advancing a well-formulated plan to ensure you do not finish your term.”

Meanwhile, Democrats’ lapdog, lap-it-up media are looking for a Trump scandal behind the administration’s every word and every action. They never showed this much interest in “affordability” under the Biden bone-crushing inflation that caused the crisis; never complained this much about Obama’s many drone killings of foreign terrorists; looked away from Biden’s obvious health challenges while putting Trump’s under a faulty microscope; and they bent over backward to overlook – or cheer on – Biden’s mass importation of illegals.

So, they’re dutifully ignoring plummeting inflation and energy costs and other improvements under Trump – no doubt hoping to paint a perverse picture that blames him for the lack of “affordability” that Biden bequeathed us.

Truth be known, the sudden interest in the A-word has all the earmarks of a John Brennan-era CIA psy-op (“Trump is a Russian asset!” “The Biden laptop is a Russian trick!”)

Moreover, Democrat-run state and municipal governments refuse to recognize federal authority to deport illegal aliens – or to even audit who’s receiving federal food aid.

Taken together, it’s every bit the insurrection that Jan. 6 never was.

“We are in a domestic homegrown COLOR REVOLUTION,” posts Gen. Mike Flynn, Trump’s first National Security Advisor who was arguably set up by Brennan and Co., “and I’m not convinced @realDonaldTrump nor those national security officials advising him understand nor recognize how dangerous of a period of time America faces if those involved are not held ACCOUNTABLE.”

Indeed, the result of all this is that America today is facing one of the most fateful forks in the road in its history. It is the story of our time, though few are even talking about it:

Considerable portions of the federal government are refusing to recognize the results of the 2024 election.

Call it the deep state, the entrenched bureaucracy or, as Democrats like to put it when they’re out of power, “the resistance” – as if they’re the Allies parachuting in to save Europe.

How heroic! They want to save us from the president we just overwhelmingly elected!

These people, Logan argues, are evoking “treason, sedition, subversion of the President and going against the will of the American people.

“Who is behind this?”

An even more fundamental question Americans must ask themselves in the face of this is: Are we the people in charge of this country – or has self-governance become a myth, a casualty of a bureaucracy so deep-rooted it’s become a parasite that has taken over its host?

Like the nefarious, self-aware computer in 2001: A Space Odyssey, is permanent Washington now saying, “I’m sorry, Don, I’m afraid I can’t do that”?

How much help are Republicans in Congress?

Not much, it seems.

“The biggest problem our movement faces today is that too many elected Republicans simply do not understand that we are in a street fight for the fate of Western civilization,” posts Kentucky U.S. Senate candidate Nate Morris, who’s running to replace the retiring Mitch McConnell.

“The stakes here are just too high. We either have Republicans who go to war to defend America and the western values that made our country great or we’re going to lose everything to the radical left. 

“President Trump understands this. VP Vance understands this. I understand it. But unfortunately, the majority of Republicans in DC still don’t get it. 

“It’s time for Republicans to follow President Trump’s lead and finally get tough …The future of Western Civilization depends on it.”

In short, did the 2024 election happen or not? Are we self-governed or not?

Chillingly, it’s an open question.
