(The Lion) — Two National Guard members were shot in Washington, D.C., mere blocks from the White House on Wednesday.
The D.C. Police Department said a suspect is in custody and the “scene is secured.” The condition of the victims is currently unknown.
“Please join me in praying for the two National Guardsmen who were just shot moments ago in Washington D.C.,” Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem wrote on X, noting that the department is working to gather more information.
The shooting, which took place at 17th and I Street NW, was within walking distance from the White House. President Donald Trump is currently in Palm Beach, Florida, for the Thanksgiving holiday.
“The White House is aware and actively monitoring this tragic situation,” White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt said in a statement. “The President has been briefed.”
