Watch: Annunciation school shooting victim released from hospital, receives hero’s welcome

(The Lion) — Nearly two months after being shot during an attack during a chapel service at Annunciation Catholic School in Minnesota, 12-year-old Sophia Forchas was released from the hospital on Thursday.

A large crowd of friends, family and medical staff who cared for her gave Sophia a hero’s welcome outside Hennepin County Medical Center as she emerged from a stretch limousine with gullwing doors.

“You are amazing. It’s so amazing,” one woman said, greeting her. Many in the crowd wore shirts or carried signs reading “Sophia Strong.”

Her family credits prayer for her miraculous recovery after she nearly became the third victim to die in the shooting. The attack was carried out by former student Robert “Robin” Westman, who identified as transgender. Westman took his own life after opening fire during a Mass at the school, killing two children and injuring 17 others.
