(The Lion) — A Netflix boycott could be happening after a conservative social media account began publicizing examples of Netflix shows targeting children with sexual content.
One of the posts garnered the attention of billionaire social media giant Elon Musk, who reposted it with a disapproving nod at the streaming company, along with a subscription cancellation.
The posts were followed by a flood of X accounts posting cancellation notices to take effect after their current subscription ends, usually in one month.
The activity is renewing a push by conservatives on social media to boycott the company, which has a long history of embracing socialist identity politics.
Libs of TikTok posted over a half dozen examples of streaming content aimed at kids, some for those under 7 years old, featuring transgender, queer or LGBTQ characters or storylines.
One show, Ridley Jones, features Jones as a gender-busting 6-year-old feminine equivalent of Indiana Jones. The character also has a “non-binary” bison pal named Fred who goes by the pronouns “they/them.”
In the clip, Fred complains about visiting grandparents because last time Fred went, the little bison had a different name and pronouns.
The show also features a girl with two dads, said the National Desk.
New episodes of the show were cancelled after the airing of the bison “coming out” episode caused people to post negative reviews. Old episodes are still available for streaming.
Libs also posted a clip from Dead End Paranormal Park, a show with a 7+ age rating, which features a transgender teenager, Barney Guttman.
Barney lives in a paranormal theme park where he works – after abandoning his family because his grandmother verbally abused him. His best friend is a Pakistani-American who is queer and autistic.
The clip caused Elon Musk to post, “This is not ok.”
Later, Musk called creator of Paranormal Park Hamish Steele a “groomer” and announced he is canceling his Netflix subscription.
Steele lives in the U.K. and won an LGBTQ GLAAD award for his creation of the show, which was cancelled after only 20 episodes for lack of streams. Again, old episodes are still available.
Previously, Steele, who goes by the pronouns “he/they,” created a show for kids on Netflix called “Doc McStuffins,” which featured a lesbian couple.
Steele’s Blue Sky account recently made news for calling Charlie Kirk a “nazi” and a Kirk supporter “a f*** evil sh*t.”
Kirk’s alleged murderer was reportedly involved in a romantic relationship with a trans-identifying man, according to media reports.
Other Netflix cartoon shows called out by Libs of TikTok include a series produced by Barack and Michelle Obama called Ada Twist, Scientist, starring an 8-year-old girl character, which showed a gay wedding; Cocomelon Lane, which “showcases a little boy in a dress, dancing for his two gay dads”; and Jurassic World: Camp Cretaceous, which features two characters who develop a lesbian relationship.
Many Netflix employees have a history of LGBTQ activism and advocacy, which has caused the company to suffer multiple strikes.
LGBTQ creators and animators picketed Netflix in 2021 after comedian Dave Chappelle released the special The Closer, which included negative commentary on transgender issues.
Chappelle responded to the criticism by calling transgender creators bullies.
“I said what I said, and boy, I heard what you said,” Chappelle responded. “My God, how could I not? You said you want a safe working environment at Netflix. It seems like I’m the only one that can’t go to the office anymore.”
In 2023, transgender activists again targeted the company, arguing they weren’t represented by Netflix.
“Strikes are moments where you redefine who is at the table, and we want to be sure that we’re sending a really strong message to the world that we’re at the table now and we want to stay at the table,” said one striker.
Critics of the employees say the company has a catalogue of hundreds of TV shows and movies devoted to LGBTQ themes, out of proportion to the gay, lesbian and transgender demographic comprising about 4.7% of the U.S. adult population.
Customers who cancel often cite what they see as the inappropriate inclusion of sexual identity content aimed at children, which many believe is an ideological ploy.
So, while LGBTQ activists may demand a seat at the table, viewers are saying they can’t sit with the children to discuss sex.
Dozens of accounts shared their cancellation notification from Netflix on X.
“20 years…. Done,” said one former Netflix subscriber, sharing a screenshot of the cancellation form, noting the reason as “Other.”
“Promotion of transgender ideology,” was the stated issue for the monthly subscription removal.
The controversy comes amid rising concern about transgender violence from youth.
A wave of recent killings has been attributed to “gender ideology [that] has radicalized young people,” including the Annunciation Catholic School shooting in Minnesota and the Charlie Kirk assassination.
Ironically, Netflix recently signed a multiyear advertising agreement with Anheuser-Busch, the parent company of the Bud Light beer brand, which tried a marketing strategy including a transgender marketing ambassador, Dylan Mulvaney.
The subsequent boycott cost Anheuser-Busch an estimated $1.4 billion in sales.
