Watch: Economy steamrolls ahead as consumer spending increases for second straight month

(The Lion) — President Donald Trump’s economy keeps moving forward as consumer spending edged up in July, something CNN business reporter Matt Egan called “a relief.”

“Nice to be here on a summer Friday with some good news, right?” Egan said. “Consumer spending, the engine of this economy, it increased by a solid amount in July.”

Retail and food services sales rose .5% from June and 3.9% from July 2024, according to the Commerce Department, marking two straight months of increases.

“You can see this is the trend,” Egan added. “Earlier this year, again, you do see (some) concerning drops, but now look at this.”
