Opinion: Russia hoax virus infects more than politics, burrows deep into American psyche

It’s catastrophic enough that the Russia collusion hoax is the worst political scandal in U.S. history. Which it is. Without equal.

But it’s much more than even that.

Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton’s cynical, malevolent scheme to hijack our republic by mobilizing the terrifying weapons of a hostile government to frame Donald Trump as a Russian accomplice has deeply fractured the very core of American society – perhaps past the point of no return.

How flesh-eating must your hunger for power be to make you willing to consume an entire country to get it?

As others have noted, Obama and Clinton have done precisely what Vladimir Putin would’ve if he could’ve to tear this country apart.

Again, it’s dreadful enough that their sinister contrivances – using a few well-placed serpents in the CIA and FBI to turn a domestic psy-op on their own countrymen, no less – shackled Trump’s first term in a dank prison of suspicion and sham inquiry.

But the destruction it has done to our politics pales in comparison to the devastation it has done to the body politic. To we, the people.

Absolutely nothing since the Civil War has ruptured so many friendships, pitted so many strangers against each other or inspired so much fratricidal malice.

Social media are rife with videos of venom for Trump supporters, leftists being triggered by Make America Great Again hats, and loathing liberals throwing tantrums at having to sit next to “vile” conservatives on a plane.

“People forget how bad it used to be as a Trump supporter back in Trump’s first term,” one conservative writes on X. “The Dems were foaming at the mouth, claiming we were all Nazis, and they justified their vitriol against us, because they were told that Trump conspired with Russia to steal the 2016 election.”

And, as many of us have known for years, and others with open minds are now discovering, it was all a hoax perpetrated by Clinton and amplified by Obama on his way out the White House door.

Look at the damage it has wrought to our nation’s social fabric.

“I am realizing I will never be able to coexist with the left,” another conservative posted. “For more than 9 years, we took their hate, their lies, their gross accusations, and we let it go because it’s what we do, but you tried to take his life, TWICE!!! And I have little doubt they would try again.

“I don’t want to live with them. I don’t want to coexist with them.”

Erudite commentator Victor Davis Hanson calls the Russia hoax “a scandal whose dimensions we can’t even imagine,” one that severely undermined public confidence in elections, not to mention almost every other function of the federal government.

“It should shake every single American in their shoes,” Jason Meister, a Trump campaign advisor, tells Newsmax.

“It consumed our national discourse for five years. It undermined the sitting duly-elected president. It sabotaged an administration. It framed a three-star general. It destroyed and ripped this country apart. We had a constitutional crisis the likes of which I don’t think any American can fully comprehend.”

Warns Missouri Sen. Eric Schmitt: “You can’t have a constitutional republic – a democracy – when the people in charge weaponize to this extent [against] their chief political rival.”

Perhaps a new administration, some badly needed transparency, and some short-term pain in the form of criminal prosecutions of the un-American conspirators will help move us beyond the political damage.

Most of us, anyway: Obama and Clinton have left the Democrat Party in a shambles, with a Wall Street Journal poll saying 63% of voters now have an unfavorable opinion of Democrats – the party’s lowest rating in 35 years.

Just 8% have a “very favorable view of the party.

But if Obama and Clinton have destroyed the Democrat Party, they very nearly did the same to the country. And who’s to say they haven’t?

Indeed, what will the left do (after lashing out at Telsa for Elon Musk’s temerity to merely make the federal government more efficient) if either of their false gods is actually indicted for this communist-style conspiracy?

How do we put this broken Humpty-Dumpty of a society back together again?

No matter how much evidence of seditious conspiracy comes out, many people on the left will never believe the awful truth, will never accept that their heroes Obama and Clinton are as evil as they have been exposed to be.

Or, even worse, they will believe it, but perversely excuse it all as necessary lies and slanders for the greater good of defeating a supposed Hitler. To destroy democracy in order to – what, save it?

The Russia hoax is to American politics and culture what Wuhan was to the COVID virus. Both created poisonous pathogens.

And it appears neither pandemic will be cured with a vaccine.
