UPenn medical system to stop offering sex-change treatments to children

(The Lion) — Penn Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania recently announced it will no longer offer “gender-affirming care” to minors with gender dysphoria, the College Fix reports.

In addition to stopping the removal of healthy breasts and genitals, practitioners will no longer inject children with hormones to affirm their so-called gender identity.

On his nationally syndicated radio show, Lion Week in Review host Chris Stigall celebrated the news.

Officials at Penn Medicine were less enthused.

“This is a difficult decision that we know impacts patients and families who place their trust in our care teams,” Penn Medicine Senior Vice President Patrick Brennan told the Daily Pennsylvanian.

Penn Medicine decided to comply with an executive order signed by President Donald Trump, which promises to withhold federal funding from entities that provide so-called gender-affirming care to minors.

State Rep. Rick Krajewski, D-West Philadelphia, said the school’s decision was “disappointing, unnecessary and wrong.”

“Gender-affirming care is healthcare. It saves lives,” Krajewski wrote on X. “The University must stop giving into bigoted federal demands without a fight.”

The news received many positive reactions across social media.

“Good. Should not have been happening at all,” one X user wrote.

A Facebook user posted, “There was a time not long ago that women had to wait until 25 (?) to get a tubal ligation. And have your husband’s approval. Having time to consider your decision is never a bad idea. I’m sure there are some people who changed their mind during that time in between.”

Another Facebook user emphasized the importance of making “an informed adult decision” regarding such procedures: “If this is what you want to do. More power to you. But you don’t get it done under the age of 18. You take time to make the decision.”

Additionally, one woman wrote, “If you can’t drink at the age before 21 no one should be making a life changing decision like that without a logical mind set period and before anyone argues looks at the silly stuff online.”
