Satanic leader arrested at Kansas Capitol after throwing punches

(The Lion) — Michael Stewart, founder and president of the Satanic Grotto, was arrested on Friday while performing a Black Mass ritual inside the Capitol building in Topeka, Kansas.

Video shared on X shows Stewart lifting his hands in a religious ritual, appearing to mock the Catholic Eucharist, when a young man appears to grab at Stewart’s lifted hands. Stewart then throws two punches before being taken down by police officers, handcuffed and escorted down a hallway.

While Stewart may not have planned a physical altercation, his arrest was not unexpected.

“We will be entering the building and attempting to perform the mass, and if Capitol Police want to stop us, they will need to arrest us,” Stewart previously told the media about the event, as reported by The Lion.

The event’s Facebook page appeared more combative.

“Between 10 am and 2pm, we expect there to be a dominating Catholic presence of (sic) the south steps of the capitol building,” it reads. “We will be counter protesting this group! this is where we want your support. Our fire and brimstone team is fierce and viscous (sic). We will make that crowd uncomfortable and we will drowned (sic) out their prayers. As a bonus we will hand out ‘mini black mass’ kits that be (sic) used anywhere any time! instructions included. They can stop one black mass but they cant stop us all.”

Indeed, many opponents of the mocking demonstration gathered in protest, most of whom appeared to be Catholic. The protest was livestreamed.
