(The Lion) — Christians focus on eternal things instead of the temporal, declared Vice President JD Vance when asked about his faith at the 2025 Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) on Thursday.
“[The Christian faith] is not just a set of good moral principles though it is that. I think the fundamental tenet of our faith is that the Son of God became man, he died and he raised himself from the dead,” Vance began.
He continued by saying one of those tenets was caring for one’s eternal soul, not just earthly life.
“We shouldn’t fear death,” Vance explained. “Of course, death is a very bad thing, but there are much more terrible things than just losing one’s life, and importantly, you could lose [your] soul. Whether it’s fighting for the unborn or fighting for peace and security for our citizens, I want us to be the kind of society where my kids can grow up to be virtuous young people.”
The vice president took a short detour to explain the Trump administration’s pro-family stance and why it was important to send abortion policy back to the states.
Vance described himself as very pro-life and said it was important for pro-lifers to “persuade our fellow Americans.”
“Now we’ve got the power, we’ve got the power of persuasion,” he said. “We’ve got to persuade our fellow citizens that unborn life is worthy of protecting. It is sacred in the eyes of God and it should be sacred in the eyes of man too.
“We have to pick up the torch and fight for that every single day.”
Vance also reflected on how he approaches his work and life from his Christian faith.
“We put our faith in God above,” Vance concluded. “We put our faith in the grace of God, and we try the best to do His will. And we don’t worry so much about whether we’re going to have earthly rewards.
“We worry about whether we’re doing right by God Almighty above.”
Vance was one of many notable conservative speakers at the conference, including President Donald Trump, former Prime Minister of the United Kingdom Liz Truss, Sen. Ted Cruz of Texas, Sen. Eric Schmitt of Missouri, Border Czar Tom Homan and media personalities such as Ben Shapiro and Megyn Kelly.
The conference began Feb. 19 and is scheduled to conclude Feb. 25.
