Democrats claim mantle of ‘peaceful transfer of power’ to further try to shame J6ers; historical record says otherwise

Even as President Trump’s victory was certified in Congress Monday, Democrats and their supporters – pointing to the Jan. 6, 2021 election protest – were self-righteously claiming ownership of the nation’s unique peaceful transfer of power.

“Democrats re-establish the peaceful transfer of power,” one blogger’s headline exulted. “We must be forthright in recognizing that the peaceful transfer of power that will occur on Monday is due to the fealty to the Constitution demonstrated by Democrats. …

“Democrats should take pride on January 6, 2025, that they are responsible for continuing the tradition of peaceful transfer of power.”

“Trump Gets the Peaceful Transfer of Power His Supporters Violently Refused Four Years Ago,” blared a headline at Mother Jones.

“Good morning,” Democrat Sen. Chris Murphy of Connecticut preemptively crowed with the cock Monday morning. “Don’t take for granted how quiet the Capitol will be today. It’s because today in America, tragically, only one party respects elections. The other party uses and justifies violence to keep power.

“Had Harris won, today likely would have been another bloodbath.”

The left’s cold smugness, of course, is wholly reliant on a weaponized government’s narrative that the 2021 incident was the most inept, least violent insurrection in history, “an attempt to overthrow the 2020 election results,” as Mother Jones puts it.

Yes indeed. An insurrection without organization (except for egging on from shadowy figures who have largely escaped notice or sanction), and with nary a black knight or archer to be had.

Or maybe, as conservatives still believe today and which seems more likely with each passing day, it was a poor, disjointed and ill-advised attempt to prevent a fraudulent election outcome. It depends on one’s perspective.

Either way, the “insurrection” claim, dutifully recited as sacred scripture by the left and its lapdog media, may not hold up under scrutiny that’s even slightly more objective than Nancy Pelosi’s Hollywood-produced, one-sided “Select Committee” inquisition – which might as well have gotten its name from the fact that it featured only like-minded members selected by Pelosi.

And ever so suspiciously, it’s a committee that now thinks enough of its evidence of insurrection that much of it has oddly been destroyed rather than be brought out into the enlightening glare of history.

Regardless, the left’s vainglorious snorting about its jolly acquiescence to a peaceful transfer of power simply doesn’t comport with the historical record.

For one thing, Democrats have contested every presidential loss since 1988, notably including Donald Trump’s first win in 2016 – after which a string of House Democrats sought to file complaints about key states’ electoral votes for him.

Interestingly enough, it was Democrats’ own vice president at the time – Joe Biden – who had to gavel them down for failing to have even one senator sign on to the challenges as required by law.

That there were no such challenges on Monday to Trump’s second win is hardly a tribute to the magnanimity of Democrats. In fact, it was Democrats who led the charge to change the law in 2022 to make it exceedingly more difficult for Congress to question electoral vote totals.

Moreover, given the decisiveness of Trump’s second victory, challenging it would have been somewhere between quixotic and idiotic.

In addition – and this is no small addition – Democrat gloating over its devotion to democracy and its peaceful transfer of power flies in the face of what happened in 2016 and beyond.

As we now know, it was the Hillary Clinton campaign and the Democratic National Committee that tried in vain to frame Trump as a Russian asset and traitor – and an Obama administration that laid the groundwork for the red-herring Mueller investigation that tried to prove what leading Democrats knew all along was a concocted claim.

Democrats didn’t stop at that – ginning up two impeachments that only debased the mechanism, divided the country and crippled the presidency.

If all that sounds like a peaceful transfer of power to you, I’m not sure the term means what you think it does.
