The Alaska man charged with threatening to torture and murder six Supreme Court justices and their families donated to the Democrat opposing Missouri Sen. Josh Hawley in the November election, Hawley’s office discovered.
Panos Anastasiou, 76, is facing “22 federal charges stemming from 465 alarming messages he sent via the Supreme Court’s website between March 10 and July 16,” the New York Post reports.
“The justices are not identified in the indictment, but details about Anastasiou’s messages indicate he targeted Justices Samuel Alito and Clarence Thomas,” the newspaper reported Thursday.
The newspaper also says according to Federal Election Commission records Anastasiou donated dozens of times to ActBlue, a left-wing political action committee, as recently as July.
After the arrest was announced Thursday, Hawley posted on X what he says is an FEC document indicating Anastasiou in July 2023 had actually earmarked one of his ActBlue donations, for $10, to Lucas Kunce, the Democrat trying to unseat Hawley in the 2024 election.
“DOJ just arrested an assassin planning to torture and kill six Supreme Court Justices. He’s a donor to @LucasKunceMO,” Hawley wrote.
The Heartlander reached out to Kunce’s campaign for comment and received this reply, attributed to Kunce himself:
“Grateful that law enforcement moved swiftly and apprehended this criminal. Political violence has no place in this country. And I’ll be donating the $17.50 he gave to charity so he never sees it again.”
