Drag queens are coming to Kansas City to celebrate Christmas, and “all ages” are welcome.
“A Drag Queen Christmas” is coming to The Midland Theatre in Kansas City on Dec. 20, an event advertised as an “all ages” affair. And yet, the show’s promotion includes a warning for “adult content.”
“For the 8th consecutive year, Murray & Peter present, ‘A Drag Queen Christmas.’ Get ready for your favorite queens performing live on stage,” the ad reads. “It’s a magical (and hilarious) evening of holiday performances featuring contestants from the reality television show on VH1.”
“All ages welcome.”
“Warning – adult content.”
The ad begs the question: What about the show isn’t adult content?
Part of a national tour through the end of December, the show is the “most sexual and inappropriate family-friendly drag show I have ever attended,” reports independent journalist Taylor Hansen. “From simulating sex, talking dirty to the crowd, sexualizing children’s stories, and much more,” he continued.
Apparently the antics during the “blatantly sexualized show meant to groom children” were so raunchy that Hansen felt compelled to create a “Mega Thread” on Twitter to expose it all. On Monday morning, Hansen told one outlet he had just been “locked out” of Twitter over his posts.
Even the Twitter thread itself may not be safe viewing for many, certainly by children. It is replete with sexually explicit images and videos of the nude or semi-nude performers dancing, gyrating and simulating sex acts while interacting with the children in attendance – to the robust cheers of the adults who brought them.
The lewdest performers include one who sings a song titled “T–s in a Box” while audience members spank him. At one point he reportedly asks a child, “Are you reaching for my [breasts]? Are you hungry?”
Another performance, which included countless simulated sex acts, a sexualized children’s story with Santa Claus and sexually explicit videos playing in the background, was called “Screwdolph the Red Nippled Reindeer.”
Yet another portion of the show treats the enthralled audience to men in “kink harnesses” grabbing their genitalia while simulating intercourse – as a drag queen speaks to a 9-year-old before addressing his mother.
“You are such an awesome mom for bringing your kid out to a family-friendly drag show,” he says.
Hansen reports there were more than 20 children in the audience at the Austin, Texas show. Many of those children were reportedly given money by their parents to tip the performers, a ritual common in strip clubs.
“$10 already, I think I have a fan. Obsessed much? It’s a child! I’ve got to think outside the box; what am I going to do? Easy: make Jacob Marley a whore,” exclaimed a performer called “Crystal Methyd,” as he ground his groin back and forth on a prop chain to a Rihanna song titled “S&M.”
“Are you having fun? Are you enjoying it? Are you confused yet?” one performer asked two children ages 9 and 10.
Another performer spotted familiar faces in the audience.
“I saw you guys with your mom in the meet-and-greet,” he said. “Where’s Melinda the mom? Melinda, right? Wait, tell me your name again. Sonya! We need more mothers like you in the world, thank you so much.”
“The host, Nina West,” Hansen reports, “played a ‘game’ with the audience called ‘Naughty or Naughty.’ The game involved giving explicit details of sexual encounters. In the video, Nina details having sex with her dad’s co-worker in his office. An audience member shared his explicit story as well.”
Nina West is reportedly affiliated with Disney+ and Nickelodeon.
Even the tip bucket at the drag queen show is sexually suggestive, labeled with the words “put the tip in … see how it feels.”
The Midland Theatre did not respond to request for comments Thursday.
