The University of Missouri is looking for a new leader of its athletics department, following the mutual agreement between MU and current athletic director Jim Sterk stipulating his nearing departure.
“We’re excited to launch this national search,” said Mun Choi, president of the University of Missouri. “We’re seeking to hire a proven AD with a track record of visionary leadership, business acumen, fundraising successes, high integrity, effective management skills and a focus on the well-being of our student-athletes. Mizzou is a proud member of the SEC, and our new AD must radiate a winning and innovative approach.”
Mizzou announced Sterk and the school’s “transition agreement” earlier this week, which came almost two years ahead of his contract’s expiration on June 30, 2023. Sterk will receive full compensation for the rest of his contract, amounting to over $1.4 million.
A nine-person search committee, chaired by UM System Curator Jeff Layman, will conduct the hiring process alongside Parker Executive Search firm. The firm also assisted with previous Mizzou head coaching searches.
“Our goal is to hire a dynamic athletic director who will build upon our success in the SEC and instill a championship culture at Mizzou,” said Layman.
The committee is as follows: Layman; Pam Bruzina, Faculty Athletics Rep; Todd Graves, Curator; Greg Hoberock, Curator; Mike Kampeter, Civic Leader; Richard Miller, Alumni; Ryan Rapp, EVP for Finance & Operations; Don Walsworth, Alumni; and Michael Williams, Curator.
Sterk will leave his post when a replacement is found, or on Sept. 15 if the search remains ongoing.
