EXCLUSIVE – After a long period of anticipation, Congresswoman Vicky Hartzler publicly announced her candidacy for the 2022 U.S. Senate race on Thursday at Frontier Justice in Lee’s Summit.
Right before her announcement, Hartzler sat down with The Heartlander to discuss the upcoming campaign, her thoughts on fellow candidates and why she thinks Missourians should vote for her.
She highlighted her will to fight for Missourians’ rights and values, her advantage of already having experience in Washington, D.C., and vowed to continue fighting against left-wing groups like Planned Parenthood.
“We are in a crisis right now as a nation because the leftist socialist policies are ruining our country,” Hartzler told The Heartlander. “They’re killing our jobs, endangering our security, bankrupting our nation, harming our children and rewriting our history.
“We together as Missourians have to stop and fight to make sure we preserve America’s greatness for the future and I’m looking forward to leading the charge for our state to do that.”
As a member of the armed services committee, Hartzler has always been vocal about her unwavering support of the U.S. military and law enforcement, and promises to continue fighting for veterans if she’s elected.
“I’ve always said that one of the things we need to do in Washington is to provide for the common defense and that’s why I’ve worked so tirelessly to rebuild our military,” she said. “We’re going to continue to work for strong national security and stand strong with our allies like Israel.”
Hartzler has also condemned the ‘Defund the Police’ movement in recent years and pledged to fight to make sure law enforcement officers are taken care of.
“We also need to have strong border security and we need to have strong security in our local communities by defending our police officers, not defunding them.”
Another issue the Congresswoman is passionate about is strengthening the state’s economy through policy initiatives aimed at lowering taxes, lowering regulations and bringing jobs back to Missouri.
“The bottom line is you need to see results – not just rhetoric,” Hartzler said when asked what she thinks Missourians want from their Senator. “And that’s what we have done in eleven years with bill after bill passing to help rebuild our national security, to take on China, to help with rural broadband, to stand strong with Gold Star families.”
“Those are just some of the things we have done and with that track record, I’m looking forward to hitting the ground running and getting things done for Missouri.”
Hartzler is “really excited” for the campaign and said supporters have already reached out asking for campaign signs and what they can do to help support her.
“I believe I’m the only conservative in the race at this point,” she noted. “I’ve never strayed from those values and I never will.”
“I’m a farm girl from Archie, Missouri, school teacher, a small business owner, a wife, a mom, a public servant who has that track record. Others in the race talk about what they will do in Washington. I’ve been there and I have a record showing I’ve gotten things done.”
