(The Lion) — Two pilots were rescued early Tuesday after Iran reportedly shot down a U.S. Army Apache helicopter near the Strait of Hormuz.

An unmanned maritime drone helped rescue the pilots, who were not injured, ABC News reported.

President Donald Trump wrote Tuesday afternoon on Truth Social that the U.S. “must, out of necessity, respond to this attack,” although he did not include further details of what that response might be.

The attack comes as negotiations continue between Israel and Iran.

The White House posted a message from Trump Monday that both nations were “looking to do an immediate ceasefire.”

“Final negotiations on ‘Peace’ are proceeding, subject to ignorance or stupidity getting in its way,” Trump said.
